Jump Ideas

( great ideas you can use for jumps )

mainly cross country

I thought I would put together a page of jump ideas, If you have an idea for a jump please e-mail me and I'll put it up on this page as soon as I can. I will add more as I come up with them, but for now this is what I have. Also once I get the chance I will put of pictures as well as information ( I have a few right now )

There are lots of types of jumps you can make at home or buy witch will help you with any of your jumping needs ( weather you’re a hunter a jumper or doing cross country ). I though I would put together a collection of different jump ideas that you can use to make your jumping more fun !

Tires
Using tires ( make sure you wash them ) is a great idea. They make great fillers weather in hole or cut in half. You can even paint them to match the poles on the jump. They also work well for placing on the sides of cross country fences .Big truck and farm machinery tires work well for this.

Fence poles
Since buying actual jumping poles can cost you an arm and a leg I like to use un-pounded fence poles ( you know the poles that stand up on the fence like this l-----l-----l-----l ). There really long and usually just the right weight. If this does not make since to you ( It does sound kind of weird ) than e-mail me

Barrels
Probably the best item to have. You can use barrels as fillers in a jump, as the actual jump, or as an easy to use stand. ( I use my barrels for all three of those ! ). If you can get a hold of two old barrels of the same size you can simply paint them ( My barrels are painted green and white, giz ( my horse ) isn’t to happy about them though ! LOL )

Water jumps
Show jumping fences > I have a few suggestions for making show jumping fences. The first suggestion I have is to dig a small ditch. Make it the size you want for a water jump and then fill it up. You may have to fill it up every time you want to use it ( since the water will sink into the ground ) or if you have the money you can line the ditch in cement as well.
If it’s winter ( and there’s not to much snow out ) and to cold to use actual water you can place on the ground a blue tarp ( make sure it is secured down ) under a jump. It looks a lot like water and works really well. And it does not have to be winter to do this either.
Cross Country > If you have the money than I would build a water jump like you will see at most competitions and other places. Though it also helps you if you can find some water to simply ride through some where ( so your horse gets use to it, I use a large slough, during spring it fills up an entire pasture with water ! ) and then you can use the water jump in pony club ( if your in it ) to actually practice jumping.

Logs
Logs make great solid fences and you can find them almost any where. If you live near a woods you will be sure to find a fallen tree some where. The only problem you might find is actually moving the log !
