The Beautiful Fjord

This lovely drawing was made by Alison !

Norways unusual looking Fjord pony is believed to have inhabited Norway and probably other parts of Scandinavia since prehistoric times. These ponies have lived thousands of years in mountainous habitats producing a hardy easy to keep and perfectly adapted pony to that type of environment. The fjord makes a good all around pony as it can be trained to do almost anything ( as some of the pictures on this page prove )
- the fjord is valued both for its attractive appearance and its performance ability.
- Fjords make excellent driving ponies.
- these are small very strong well built ponies.

This picture is of Weegie and Alison You can learn more about them at there web site !

Colour : Most shades of dun with black dorsal ell-stripes and, often, zebra markings on the legs.

Conformation : pony-type head with broad forehead and small ears ; muscular neck ; strong, deep body ; fairly low - set tail ; short, strong limbs with good joints, short cannons and plenty of bone ; hard sound feet.

Interesting Fact :
One of the most distinctive features of the fjord pony is its unusual mane and tail colouring. Both mane and tail have black hair in the centre, with silver on the outside. The stiff mane is traditionally cut in a curve with the dark inner hair standing higher than the outer silver hair.
